Meet the Board

Let's meet the board of the WNY Local ONS Chapter.

Linda Huebert RN BSN OCN - Finance Chair

Linda Huebert  has been a member of National and local ONS for almost 10 years. She became a staff nurse at RPCI in 1982 working on the hematology oncology unit. Linda has also worked in bone marrow transplant caring for both in and out patients including adults as well as pediatric patients. She worked in chemo and infusion as well as in a clinical nursing superviser role. Currently she is the nurse manager of the Heme-Neuro-Pain clinic.

She received a diploma in nursing in 1982 from sister's of Charity Hospital School of Nursing, her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 2004 and has been a certified oncology nurse for almost ten years. 
Linda's primary interest are patients diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma. She has recently become a facilitator for the Leukemia & Lymphoma support group and is looking forward to serving these patients and families in a community setting.

Rose Kumpf RN BSN OCN- Treasurer

Rose Kumpf is a member of National and Local ONS.  She is an assistant Nurse Administrator at Roswell Park Cancer Institute on the Heme/Onc. BMT Unit where she has worked for 16 years. She is a RN, BSN, and OCN. Rose is married with 3 children living in Williamsville New York.

Mary Ann Long RN MS OCN- Membership Chair

Mary Ann Long has been a registered nurse for over 28 years. She has a BSN from SUNYAB and an MS in Health Services Administration from D'Youville College. Mary Ann is currently employed at Roswell Park Cancer Institute as a Director of Patient Care Services. In this role she has administrative responsibility for 3 inpatient units and 12 outpatient clinics. Mary Ann obtained her Oncology Nursing Certification in 2001. She has been a Director at Large for the local ONS and currently am the Membership Chairperson for WNY ONS. Mary Ann is married and has 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

Theresa L. Zielinski, RN, MS, OCN - Director at Large

Theresa moved to WNY over 18 years ago from Long Island ,  3 years after graduating from the BSN program at Niagara University. Since then,  she has received her Master’s Degree from D’Youville College and become  an Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®).

Theresa is currently employed as a Protocol Data Manager for Frontier Science Technology Research Foundation.  In a nutshell, they work in collaboration with the International Breast Cancer Study Group (IBCSG) and manage the data for breast cancer clinical trials. Theresa is married and has a son and a daughter.

She has been a member of both the local and national chapters of the ONS for over 18 years.  Theresa considers this a fantastic organization. She has served on many committees over the years,  all of which have deeply enriched her educational experiences as an oncology nurse.  Theresa says, "To say it is a honor to be involved in this organization is an understatement, as I get a lot more out of it than I ever could have imagined."

In 2007,  Theresa was especially privileged to be a member of the WNYONS, as she was nominated as the recipient of the “Award for Excellence”! She was not only overwhelmed to be given this award by her peers, but humbled as well!

Theresa is not only proud to be an oncology nurse,  but even more proud to be a member of this particular chapter.  She says, "It is truly great to be among such a dedicated group of professionals!"

 

Laura Markel RN BSN - Secretary/ Community Action Committee Chair

Laura has been a member of the Oncology Nursing Society for approximately seven years. She received a bachelors degree from the University of Rochester in 1998 and has been working in the oncology field for nine years. She is currently a nurse on the Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Laura says, "Even though challenging, I thoroughly enjoy my job."  She considers herself priviledged to be able to meet and work with patients and families through such a difficult time.

Kim Coleman RN BSN - Program Chair

Kim is a RN BSN with SICU backround, currently working for Bayer Oncology. She is honored to serve as program chair for the chapter.

Patti O'Neill Coppola RN BSN OCN - Nominating Chair

Patti graduated from D'youville College of Nursing, following graduation from Trocaire College.  She was Inducted in to Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society at 'D'Youville and served as a member of the D'Youville College  Alumni Board.  Patti began working at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 1980 on a Surgical(GI/STM) Oncology Unit.  She was a clinical research nurse throughout most of her career at Roswell in colorectal, melanoma, transplant and , primarily, GYN.  She has served on the GOG National Nursing Committe and work on nurse advisory boards for several pharmaceutical companies, developing and presenting CEU credit programs on ovarian cancer and side effects of chemotherapy.   Patti has been active in ONS since the mid 1980's and has been certified since 1988. She has served on the ONS  board as membership chair, several times as director at large, and twice as the nominating chair (her current position) Additionally, Patti has been on the Spring Dinner Committee, the Award for Excellence Committee ,  nominating , membership and finance committees. She obtained certification as a Clinical Research Coordinator in 2004. After retiring  from Roswell Park in Fall of 2006, Patti began working for Hospice Buffalo as a Hospital Liaison. Additionally, she works per diem in the Hospice Inpatient Unit providing symptom management,family support and end of life care.
From a personal standpoint, Patti has been an Erie County Foster parent for eight years(her most challenging job so far). She is an avid runner having completed 10 marathons (the last: Dublin Ireland on her 50th birthday). She was a founding member of the committee of the Mother's Day/ Women's Race to Benefit Breast Cancer Network and the race director for 13 years. (Race  now disbanded). Additionally she enjoys theater, travel and boosting Buffalo, Roswell Park and Hospice Buffalo in any way that she can. 

Lisa M. Boris RN, BSN

Lisa joined Roswell Park Cancer Institute in 1991 as a staff nurse, in 2006 she became the Nurse Manager for the Upper & Lower GI Centers.  At this time Lisa is actively pursuing an MSN degree in Executive Nursing Leadership. Lisa has been a member of ONS for 2 years and was recently elected to the WNY ONS Board of Directors as the Director of Education.
