Western New York Oncology Nursing Society

SCHOLARSHIPS

SCHOLARSHIPS  are available to those taking the OCN, AOCN, BMT, or CPON exams.  Currently, these awards are $486 each (early bird rate).  Three scholarships will be awarded each year, one every three months.  The deadlines to apply for the awards are April 30th, August 31st, and December 31st of each year, with the award for each period being awarded in the following month.  One recertification award will be given yearly at $286 (early bird rate).  Please contact Teresa Brennan at jfbtb@yahoo.com, Pam McLaughlin at pamela.mclaughlin@roswellpark.org, or Patti Kuehlewind at pkuehlewind@aol.com if you are interested.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA--OCN CERTIFICATION EXAM/RECERTIFICATION

Eligibility Criteria
 
The nominee should: 
  • Be a member of good standing of the Chapter
  • Must submit a letter which includes: 
    1. The number of years applicant has been an oncology nurse;
    2. Nominee’s resume or curriculum vitae, and;
    3. Nomination narrative statement certification/recertification.
 
Additional Requirements
 
Scholarship winners must write an article and submit to the Western New York ONS Chapter Newsletter. 

ONS CONGRESS

Are you interested in attending ONS Congress?  The application deadline for the ONS Congress scholarship is February 1st.  Congress is April 23-26, 2015 in Orlando, FL.  First time attendees are encouraged to apply!  Please contact Teresa Brennan at jfbtb@yahoo.com, Pam McLaughlin at pamela.mclaughlin@roswellpark.org, or Patti Kuehlewind at pkuehlewind@aol.com if you are interested. 

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA--ONS CONGRESS
 
Eligibility Criteria
 
The nominee should: 
  • Be a member of good standing of the Chapter
  • Must submit a letter which includes: 
    1. The number of years applicant has been an oncology nurse;
    2. Nominee’s resume or curriculum vitae, and;
    3. Nomination narrative statement to attend the Congress.

Additional Requirements 

Scholarship winners must write an article and submit to the Western New York ONS Chapter Newsletter.

TUITION SCHOLARSHIPS

Tuition scholarship for Undergraduate/Graduate and PhD programs

Two scholarships per year will be awarded in fall of each year, Undergraduate will be awarded $1,000.00 and Graduate/PhD will be awarded $2000.00. 

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA--UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Eligibility Criteria  
The nominee must be an active ONS member who has been nominated by an ONS member. In addition, the nominee should: 
  • Be a registered professional nurse
  • Have a minimum of one year of oncology leadership experience
  • Not have previously received the Emerging Leader Award.
 
When these criteria are met, primary consideration will be on how the nominee: 
  • Advances the oncology nursing profession and quality cancer care at the local/regional level
  • Mentors, precepts, orients, coaches, or teaches nurses in the practice of oncology nursing
  • Demonstrates leadership at the local or regional level, which may include oncology-related leadership in the areas of community and public service, advocacy, health literacy, supportive services, and/or academic activities.

The following materials are required. 
  1. Nomination narrative statement
  2. Nominee's resume or curriculum vitae
  3. Two (2) letters of support from any of the following:  a colleague, a patient/caregiver, or employer/supervisor
